Wow, lots of mixed answers on this one. I just bought my new audi today and my dealer told me there are no TPMS in the new A4's. Someone please confirm!!!

 

FYI.....

I just picked up my '09 A4 Avant yesterday and it DOES NOT have TPMS. There is no TPMS setup in the MMI and when the PDI checklist was done on the car the TPMS section was skipped.

 

A4's do not have TPMS in Canada....a pity. However, there are several aftermarket systems available. TireRack carries a couple....Hella and Orange Electronics:

The Orange system is simpler to install......I plan to install it on my '09 A4 Avant. The Orange is a bit cheaper at US Auto Parts.

 

I have it on my 2008.

When you look at the wheels, the valve is titane (grey) and it is a bit bigger than normaly. Also, you have in the MMI the information about TPMS.

I don't enjoy having this feature cause my winter wheels don't have it.

 

This is a sticking point for me. The dealer told me there is no TPMS on the A4 series and this was confirmed by Audi Canada. US cars all have it by law. I wrote to Audi Canada to see if I could special order it and their answer was that specs varied for different countries and they can't change that.

Metal valve stems are usaually confirmatory of TPMS, however some GM cars with direct TPMS have black rubber valve stems on the sensors.

I plan to add TPMS to my A4......I have two other vehicles with Direct TPMS and it's invaluable.

The key is the controller numbers
# 1K0 907 379 K
# 1K0 907 379 Q
# 1K0 614 517 R

Scan [03] and see if the controller number matches. At times the recode without any parts may indicate that the function is there but never enabled.
Use a schematic for that model with a VAG style scan tool. Use NO solder, crimp and shrink connections only.
This is only an example and only qualified technicians should fit and test this adaptation.

Once you've completed it, show the dealer.

 

I have already bought an aftermarket direct TPMS by Orange Electronics (US$151) which includes 4 sensors and a display module that is plugged into 12V or hard wired. Very Cheap and simple. It reads pressure and temperature of each tire.
I just got the car ('09 A4 Avant) a week ago but have not installed the sensors as yet.
