I have an '09 A4 Avant and it did not come with any form of TPMS. I did install an aftermarket system by Orange Electronics and it works great. The kit (4 sensors and a display module ) was about US$150 from Tire Rack. It did cost $75 to have the sensors installed and balanced on the factory wheels, then the module was just a plug in 12V (under arm rest). I actually bought two kits, one for summer and the other for my winter tires.
Here are some photos of my winter wheels. I installed the sensors myself.
That was the only safety feature missing on my car. The module displays the PSI and TEMP of each tire. I have the warning set at 26 psi (default).
