Audi of America has recently settled in a class action suit with our southern neighbours (USA) to the tune of over 23 million dollars. Even covering the cost of previous engine work done to Audi engines at Audi dealerships.

The issue, as many of you know, lies in the piston rings being incorrect from the factory. Audi has known this since 2008. It is a world wide problem
There is a new design for piston rings, pistons, and connecting rods for the CAEB engine.

If you have a CAEB 2.0 engine burning oil , 1 liter per 1000kms - give or take.
If you paid out of pocket for the oil consumption test part 1 or 2 you could also be reimbursed. Please contact me through audi forum.ca, if you want more info.

I have many links as well as the legal documents for the case that closed this past October 2014.

I am helping the law office build a plaintiff list. This is a class action suit with hundred or potentially thousands of plaintiffs, there will be no upfront cost to anyone, just information sent to the law office, not to me.
To fins out if your engine is the CAEB you can call your local dealer with your VIN#.

I will happily pass you the information of the law office, or vice versa, I am happy to act as a middle man.
Many of us have been living with this problem for far too long. We paid a premium for the Audi name and its heritage and its far time Audi correct this issue.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
I have a 2011 Audi Q5 with 133000 kms. Today I have informed that Audi Canada will not be helping in any way with my $10,000 new engine bill. I am looking to see if anyone out there has any suggestions as to what my next step should be. I am very disappointed that Audi Canada is not willing to help me is the slightest way.

I’m appalled by Audi Canada’s lack of response to this ongoing issue. I’ve been dealing with oil consumption problems for nearly two years. I followed all the service procedures with regards to the oil consumption test, waited for it to fail and then agreed to Audi Canada’s request to pay for Audi Oakville to open up my engine to confirm what we expected from the onset which was the piston issue. Audi Canada has refused my claim. I have impeccable service history and am disgusted by Audi Canada’s lack of customer service when discussing escalation of my claim. I am constantly reminded of “high mileage” and not the fact that these cars are defected. I would like to understand why Audi Canada is so concerned about their cars being driven? If you purchase a car and pay it off with the intent of driving it - why should a documented and known defect be the consumers issue? Especially when stringent oil consumption tests are in place forcing the owner to wait for almost two years for the test to fail and then being left with a $10k bill. What is the point of buying new and what is the point of having impeccable service history with the Audi dealership? Please help me understand why this continues to not be addressed?

I received a letter related to this dated December 23 2019:
https://www.timingchainsettlement.ca/

Looks like a settlement is near for the timing chain issue. A similar case was won in the US -- happy to see this in Canada (although I don't know if I can scrounge all the relevant records or not). Note that this is the timing chain and tensioner -- your expenses may be different than what is covered here.

Hi There,
I have recently purchased an A5 cabriolet 2011 without any knowledge about oil consumption issue on this model. In first week I found there is an unusual oil consumption.
I have done a tons of research and finally I brought back the car to dealership and they did the stage 1 fix for me with no cost (thanks to them) because the car comes with 90 day warranty.
Currently the car is under supervision to find out how much oil it will lost in 1000 km. I'm sure it is more than normal because i can easily see on MMI that oil level comes down from maximum to almost nothing. I will find if the case going to be a problem like y'all facing with and then,
If anyone can update me with the lawsuit regarding to this issue would be appreciated. I'm new member. Thanks

Hi - I have the same car - with 108 000km. For the last three month I have been in a battle with Audi Canada who refused to assist with Stage 2.
After dealer paid for Stage 1 my car was even worse - 1L of oil after 530KM. Gas millage doubled also.
Wrote to president of Audi Canada. Got rude response from Robert Glen - manage of customer service. Tried with proposal for Audi Canada to pay 60% of stage 2 - they refused. Tried to get free parts for Stage 2 - they refused.
Their response is that my car is outside of extended warranty (8 years) so they are refusing to help.
I had to go to independent mechanic shop who did Stage 2 for $4800 - this included new timing chain and brand new pistons.

I have filed a claim with Transport Canada ( https://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Saf-Sec-Sur....aspx?lang=eng ) and considering taking Audi Canada to small claims court.
It will be great to pool resources and get more people involved that have been refused by Audi Canada.

This is not "ordinary" situation where something might go wrong. This is factory defect that Audi admitted to be their fault. There should be no statue of limitation or time limit imposed on this.
thanks

This past fall I purchased a used 2010 Audi A4 from an non-audi dealership. Thought I did all my research but missed the oil consumption lawsuit. My car seemed fine at first but is burning 1 qt per 800-1000 km. Tried the dealership I bought it from but they couldn't be bothered. Because it's a 2010 and has 144k km on it it looks like I am out of luck based on what I have read here and on other forums. Anyone else in my situation that found a way to get it fixed?

Hi There, I have a 2012 Q5, and like all other Q5, extra engine oil consumption and possible engine failure too. Audi Canada has investigated it for about one month and tell me they won't pay for the re-work. If there is any lawsuit action going on against Audi, I am 100% in.

We have a 2013 Q5 2.0T. We started having problems a year ago and after $9,000 of repairs at our Audi dealer to try to fix the problem, they have now diagnosed it as leaking oil around the piston rings. Their only solution is to either replace the piston kit ($11K) or replace the engine ($18K) We are trying to get Audi to honour our extended warranty that we purchased, which expired 2 months before the problems started. I am interested in this class action law suit in Canada. Can you tell me more?
