Default Thermostat and temperature sensor issues

Hey all!

I have an '06 A4 2.0T audi and lately the engine light has been lighting up again. Got it scanned a couple weeks back to be told its giving a "temperature" read. The shop asked if the temperature was inordinately high when driving to which I advised no, since it wasn't. They deduced it was the temperature sensor then.

To my dismay, began driving after this repair and the light came back on again a few days later. Upon scan today, now being told it has to be the thermostat since its a temperature read..... question though, wouldn't my temperature be high if this was really the problem? Help me before I spend $550 on top of the $150 last week!

bahhhhh!!

Does your heat work? If not your thermostat is probably stuck causing the reading. A thermostat will cost you $550? Made of gold and diamonds?

your own thermostat may well be trapped causing the actual reading.

It doesn't sound that your mechanic is honest. He should replace the t'stat in the first place.

Join the club. Same car as yours. Same issue as you. Actually it seems to be a common vw audi thing. I have owned a 99 Jetta, 01 passat and now 06 a4. And all three cars had thermistat problems. Might as well do ur timing belt if it's not done yet.
