Default Possible to trigger a cel for recall perpose?

I own a 06 a4. Recently it has been misfiring and running lean due to a Pcv valve. Luckily that warranty has been extended and I'm taking the car to the dealer to replace that and do all the other recalls that haven't been done yet.

Now the one recal they won't touch unless there's a cel light related to it is the cam follower. Is there anything I can do to trigger that code so they will do that warranty and replace the cam follower?

Don't know any way of triggering the exact CEL code that is associated with a cam follower problem. My recommendation is to pay the 30 mins labour and parts cost for a replacement follower. Ask for the original to be returned to you. If it has gone already gone bad or looks close to failure, you would be better positioned to have costs reimbursed under warranty; if not, you have a better indicator of how long a follower would last before needing replacement anyway.

IMO paying for the inspection will give you piece mind anyway, unless you really want to gamble on replacing the whole top end at your engine some time in the future.
