Default Dirty Exhaust Tips

I'm not sure if this is an issue or not. I've noticed that the tips of my exhaust get a black "soot" fairly quickly. I noticed that there were streaks on the ground below the exhausts on my garage floor. I asked the dealership and they said it's normal for water to mix with the carbon and that's what caused the stains. I had the car washed 2 days ago and have driven about 20 km since and the exhausts are completely dirty again. Is this normal?

the black means you are running rich in your air to fuel ratio

to much fuel

So is that something I can control? How would that be fixed?

Well I am more of a honda guy but the engines are very similar so it could be a couple of things:

1)Timing could be out one tooth
2)it could be as easy as your airfilter needing changed
3)it could be as easy as adding a little injector cleaner - ( there could be some gunk stuck in the injectors making them close slower

its hard to tell without seeing the car. I would start with trying the fuel injector cleaner and then go from there. if you know someone that has a scan tool it will tell you what the engine is running for air fuel ratio

hope this helps

Cheers,

I had the same question. I asked the dealer, they said it is a very common occurance with the Audi's. Nothing you can really do about it, unless you get a chip upgrade and then adjust the air to gas ratio to your liking.

upgrade your ECU. like bypass some security codes to make your car tuned, respond, and perform better.

Just out of curiosity what grade (octane) of fuel are you running?
