Thanks for the offer Kent, my Audi is at 140k kms, the dealer told me the timing belt is good for 155k kms so i still have 15k kms to go, my wife drives about 1500 to 2000 kms in a month. I can certainly wait till June before it has to be done. Will I need a hoist or jack up the car? That might be a problem, don't have the tools. Independent Tuning qouted $759 plus tax parts and labor, you still think doing it in my garage is worth the savings?

Thanks Vijay can I have his phone number, I'm in Mississauga, so it'll be very convenient if I can get it done there.

Has anyone tried the timing belt kit from ECS tuning?

Does the kit include the same components as the parts from the dealership?

I personally would not wait longer. I know that Audi says to change it at 160000km, but that is streching it. The cost of repairs caused by a busted timing belt is quite high. Most poeple go to 100000 before changing it. Consider it as preventative maintenance.

yeah chances are you probably shouldn't wait that long, given you don't know how the car has been used before you got it...

I’m looking to get my timing belt done soon too, plus I seem to have lost a good amount of my boost, and get the occasional burning smell at stop lights. Drive a 2003 1.8T Quattro with 116km. Does anyone know a good Audi mechanic in Burlington area?

My 2003 A4 just gave out yesterday the timing belt went. I has to go on for a minute or two to get off the road slowly, and the engine overheat lights came on, and the motor just shut down. I would not start afterwards.
Is it possible that the comuter just wont let it start after the overheat?
Or did the engine get fried with the valves hitting?
What am I looking at (dollars) if the engine is damaged?
