How many KM did your car have before the timing gelt went? I have 94K and I'm thinking of having it done soon.

I had a 120 k on the car. Better have it done soon. I am totally freaked out now because I dont know if the engine is finished.

100K is definitely safe, although the manufacturer recommends around 150K. Thing is it'll be much more expensive to wait till the belt breaks and then do pistons, head etc... As for the quote... My Audi dealer did my timing belt for a little less than $700 and they did everything, tensioner, idler pulley etc.... All OEM parts, so anything over that seems a little steep. This price was for my 1.8T A4 Quattro... it'll vary depending on your model and setup.

Good luck to you.

For what model, and motor is that quote for? Like I said my dealership did the job with waterpump, tensioner, idler pulley... for $700. My model though is a B5 A4(2001) 1.8T Quattro. That was at Audi Laval, just outside of Montreal. So a quote may be different for a 2.8L or Fwd model.... Although I had this done when I bought the car... that is before picking it up, maybe the dealership cut me a deal???? I doubt it but who knows.

I ordered my TB kit from ECS last week. From what I can tell it's the same parts as OEM, including the 'better' water pump (metal impeller instead of plastic).

That what I'm going to get when the time comes (100000 km's) I really want to be on the safe side. Did you get the kit w/ G12 colant? How much did It cost you if you don't mind me asking. And IMO the metal impeller is the way to go!

look in the A4 1.8t water pump/timing belt (B6) section:

Audi recommends to change the timing belt at 115000 km's:

$250 US and free shipping to my mother in law's house in the US! I got the 'ultimate' kit that includes belts, tensioners, water pump, rollers and coolant.

But I bet your real question probably is: how much is it shipped to Canada? I've done it that way for other stuff (rims, control arms) and it was definitely pricey - UPS charges an automatic $40 brokerage charge plus GST on the purchase price (which you're gonna pay anyway if you buy local) and finally, PST+GST on the brokerage fee. So it does make it more expensive. But probably still cheaper than sourcing it locally, IMO, especially for large orders. UPS has a calculator that will let you work out how much brokerage is in advance, again so at least you know how bad it'll be in advance

ECS has a new service ("Canad-ease" - who thought of that name???) where you pay all the brokerage and GST charges up front, so at least you know how much you're getting screwed by UPS.

Or, Cleveland's only about 4 hours from TO so you could always do a road trip.

This DIY seems too excessive for a timing belt change.
Quote.
"this is not the only way to change the belt. It can be changed without removing the A/C condensor and radiator, however I wanted to have plenty of room to work....so I took it all off.this is not the only way to change the belt. Does anyone know of a shorter/easier DIY that doesn't involve all this extra work????
