Yes you can program the remote by yourself, but if the immobilizer is not programmed its just an expensive key that wont start your car.

Because it's only needed for a remote starter, I would assume that they only need the transponder to work. I have the keys from a cousin's totalled a4, do you guys think that the dealership would program the transponder on that key for me so I could save some money?
