Default Key cutting

Hi,

I just purchased an remote car start, but for install they need a key. I only have 2 sets and would like to keep them so i need to get another key cut. I believe I only need just the key cut with no remote and was wondering if anyone knew where i could get one cut in edmonton or canada that would be cheap?

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

Is there no other option than the dealerships? I think what is needed is a key to sacrifice and the people installing my starter said it can be a "valet" key. I'm not sure what that is, but would that be cheaper to get?

As far as I know the keys are laser cut, and they can only be ordered from a dealership.

Yup and they need to have the immobilzer programmed, which is dealer only.

Yes, a valet key would be fine. It's a regular looking key that cannot unlock the glove box or trunk. But still, dealer only...

The dealership wants 69 for the key and 100 for programming. This sucks considering i already paid 750 for a remote car starter. O well, i guess that's my only option.

Thanks for the help

As far as I know, even the dealerships do not physically cut the keys. The local Dealer orders keys from Germany based on VIN.

is it possible to program the key by myself if i just get a key cut from the dealership?

I thought i read somewhere that if you have a key you can program it yourself, but i can't find the thread anymore.
