You guys are nuts! I just got my 2004 A4 1.8TQ Auto and I'm only getting 450km/tank city driving. I just put in a bottle of Redline Si-1 fuel system cleaner and I'm seeing a bit of increased mileage, I'm at 144km at quarter tank but I also drove 20km on the highway. What do you guys recommend me to do to increase the milage? I'm currently using 91 Petro.

hae??? Makes no sense to me whatsoever, shouldnt the engine be getting worse milage while its cold and better when it gets warm??

First of all you guys have a 63L tank i believe and we CVT's have a 70L tank so takes care of some of the less milage ur getting. Yours is also heavier because of the Quattro system. I believe most ppl that ive heard get the APR stage 1 ECU upgrade have experienced better milage, maybe try that?!!

He was posting in km/L not L/100km...
A quick conversion gives the following- he is getting about 15.2L/100km when cold, and about 8.3-10.0L/100km when warmed up.
In other words: Normal.

Want better mileage? Buy a manual transmission.
Normal mileage for these engines with an auto tranny in the winter will be around 13-15L/100km city and 8.5-10L/100km highway (depending on speed of course).
You will not see much better than this with an auto no matter what you do.
A chip will usually give better economy (if you don't use that extra boost) because it will give more timing.

Holy crap 400km? I get 550km with my twin turbo A6. with 70liters tank.

Are you using premium or regular? if you are using regular you may get bad mileage on a turbo engine. and make sure you dont shift hard in the city everytime. whats the point of an audi turbo if its not for shifting hard lol

I have had my A4 1.8T Avant FrontTrak (not Quattro), for 11 months now, driven it about 16,000km, and my average is 10.15 L/100km.

I used Esso Extra for the first four months and my milage was slightly better with the Extra grade gas at 9.8L/100km
Since last September, I have used Esso Regular, and average 10.33L/100km

My driving is a mixture of Highway and "city", since I drive back and forth to work on the 401 outside of Toronto, the slow traffic is not quite true city driving.

I think in this day and age, the automatic transmissions are so finely tuned that they WILL get better mileage then the average manual transmission.

Don't get me wrong, I would still definately prefer a manual transmission, but due to circumstances at the time, the car was what it was when I took ownership, I did not have a choice of the transmission. (Purchased from a relative after a death in the family.)

Good to know that you guys don't get a way gas mileage than I get. I get around 430km on 70L in town with my 04 Audi Allroad 2.7 TwinTurbo StationWagon ( the cars weight is around 2000kg I believe) I thought that's bad gas mileage but if you get about the same with a smaller car I guess I should be happy.

My driving is about 70% highway and 30% city. In summer time I get about 700 km on a full tank and in the winter it drops to about 500 km. I have quattro with cvt.
And yes I let the car sit idle for about 30mns min per day in winter time (warming up the cabin) guess that explain some of it.
