Default A4 B6 Engine trouble

Hi. I've got a baby B6 A4. It's a 1.6l - yes they do make them. My problem started years ago. Going to work one morning, stuck in heavy traffic and the engine started to give trouble. Brought it to 2 or 3 mechanics now (including Audi dealers) and have replaced countless coils and sensors and the water pump but still I know it will happen again and again. The car is fine on open roads, brilliant in fact, but when it hits traffic and the water temp hits 90deg the engine will start acting up. If the engine light comes on, there is poor performance from the engine and exhaust smoke is much greater. This will remain for days until I travel up a motorway at a constant speed for about 20-30min and suddenly engine light goes off and runs perfectly again. It's not too much of a problem except when the car is tested for tax at this temp. It wont pass. The emmissions levels are perfect from cold but almost 300% over the acceptable limit at 90deg. Does anyone know something these mechanics don't? Thanks

It's a standard 1.6 petrol. I bought it with 56k miles on it and it now has 133k. It started giving trouble @ about 70k. Have replaced the fuel filter @ about 80k. Don't know if it means anything but it's very thirsty for oil. Had a nissan before and never needed any. Mechanics said it uses oil to cool the pistons. But I would go through a litre of oil every 1 - 2 months. Is that a standard thing? Everything's going wrong with it now. There's that underlying problem, and now the air-con isn't working in cooling or heating mode. Just heats & cools to the same temp - depending on what the temp is outside. Seen someone elses problems and it sounds like it needs to be flushed. Was thinking it could be a temp sensor and that's why the engine reads faults when it reaches 90deg. But the air con was fine up to the summer. It's not struggling for power until the engine light comes on either, just at 90deg for about 20mins will set it off & a spin up the road will clear it and it will go well. While the light is on, the car does not accelerate well at all. The revs increase but the car does not match the revs. As it sits idle in traffic the engine begins to shake the whole car and the amount of exhaust smoke is greatly increased.

eating oil: might be your cat converter.. because our cars burn oil as well, and if u too aggressive over it and stop and turn off u can damage your engine and turbo =((

oil pressure: Is it pressured? tried compression ?

Engine Temp: Tried using the right coolant? Time to get a new radiator? Don't u have a invoice from the stealership/mechanics of what u got replaced ?
