Default 1.8t engine sludge question.

hey there, a month or so back i took my car to the dealership to fix a problem i had. they fixed what was wrong but during the test drive they said that my oil light went on. they proceeded with the oil pressure test and told me that i may have a sign of engine sludge. i didnt keep the car at the dealer because i knew they would charge a fortune for the clean up. so i drove it home, on my way home and even right now, there is no oil light on. Right now i am driving the car and trying to flush the sludge out with regular oil changes/engine flush. my question is, if i have the oil problem would the light turn back on after being reset? mine is off and i have been driving the car over 2000kms with no problem so far.... could the dealer just be screwing around with me? making me fork out unneeded money?

thanks

HHmm sounds fishy.... I thought the Oil light means that you're low on oil. Either way, I'd get a second opinion. I've been to a few Audi dealers and I'm always surprised by how little they know about their own cars.

not oil light but the oil warning that shows a stopsign in the centre display.

Don't think it's a sludge problem. Check Oil pressure sensor and related wires.

Remove the oil fill cap to see if sludge is accumulating inside as it should be pretty obvious.

1.8T's are prone to sludge buildup due to using low quality oils and not changing oil often enough. Recommend run full synthetic and change every 5K-6K KMs and engine should be fine.

i dont think its necessary to change the oil every 5-6k, especially with synthetic.

Thumbs up Re: 1.8t engine sludge question.

It's necessary to change the oil every 5-7,5km ( 1.8T engines) other way u can get sludge problem. That's why dealer change oil service from 15000km to 7500km.

^ Perfect sludge recipe for the 1.8T ^

The 1.8T is especially prone to sludge accumulation as it is a small and hard working Turbo engine. For long Engine and Turbo life, consider full Synthetic and 5K to 6K KM changes mandatory for the 1.8T. I use Synthetic in all Audi engines regardless and never go past 6K on any Turbo engine and up to 7K max on a non Turbo engine with a 4K top up.

Want pics of the inside of the heads and valve covers for an engine that has regular synthetic oil changes?
