Re: Tiptronic problem...help needed
That's what I'm thinking too. Now, tcm is not the same with the transmission range switch, right ?; I'm asking because the switch (F125) is attached to the tranny; tcm (j217)... I do not know its location.

2 - 2.5hours
tranny oil has to be done because you will loose most of it when you take the plate off.
the tcu is sitting in the oil.
tranny oil is another 80 bucks.

I know this is an old topic, but... my TCM problem is fixed, and I felt like sharing my experience with you. The repair was done at Queensway Audi, in Toronto.
The problem I had - transmission gear display flashing, so the TCM replacement was imperativ - is gone now, but I do not know how good is the mechanical work; I hope it's not going to resurface.
In terms of everything else... my experience there was the best so far. QA's offer was the best in terms of labor time, and the invoice didn't change a cent. It was a AC pipe cap that they had to replace - due to leaking - additional to the original order, but it was only $3.30 + tx.
Absolutely amaizing treatment from the customer advisor, Florin Pleava. Ask for him next time at QA, and say that Marcel recomended him.
The service manager, Bjorn, spent more than 1/2 hour answering my questions, and addressing my concerns regarding the CVT transmission that my A4 has. Very friendly guy. I was very impressed. He also offered to get AUDI technical details for me.
The car was ready a bit earlier then they initially said it would. The big issue here is the fact that within 3 hours they've done the following:
1. replace the TCM;
2. replace all 4 ignition coils ( thank them again for that; it's a recall issue I had no idea about);
3. wash the car.
YES, IcemanGER, you were absolutely right when you told me it can be done in 2 and 1/2 hours. I saved a lot because of that info . Beer on me big time, next time in TO.
Mike Motors of Ottawa told me, initially, the TCM replacement needs 8 hours to be completed. At the end it was droped to 6 hours (?!), but anyway, compare it to 2.5 hours at QA (!!!) Mr. Les, service manager, also told me that it's a 2 hour job to replace the printed circuit board underneath the shifter plate; well I asked my son to try it... he is not an Audi trained mechanic - he is not even a mechanic -, but it took him exactly 1/2 hour to get it out and put it back !!!
Mark Motors of Ottawa will NEVER see my car again, unless the owner fires Mr. Les, and brings in a more honest service manager.
Audi Canada agreed to cover 1/2 of the repair cost (TCM replacement), and I got really good support from them as well. Many thanks to Ms. Ashley. Maybe not all her actions were according to my expectations, but in the end she proved to be really honest and professional. [I know now better how the process works.]
I know for sure that I will be back at QA for further services. Amazing overall experience.
