Doing this kind of work on the car is it unreasonable to expect around 300 whp? That is with the right chip and turbo.

So, you're sticking with stock displacement - just doing rods? Going up to a 2.0L will cost you about $8-900 for parts, and you get labour 'free', so you'll have to decide if it's worth it to you.

For the head, you might want to consider some inconel exhaust valves. The stock intakes are fine for non-crazy RPMs, but inconel exhaust valves are some cheap insurance on a high-HP car - just think how much overheating a stock sodium-filled valve and dropping it will end up costing!

Since you're doing at least rods, boost is going to be limited by the turbo. The GT series turbos above are fine up to about 27-28PSI - no sense running them at the numbers you posted. The wHP you make is again going to depend on the turbo you select. A GT3071R, for example, can make up to about 450wHP with the right mod's and a 2.0L; but, that's pretty much a max, and at that point you'd be safer running a GT3076R. 300wHP can be had on anything => GT28RS. I like a broad, torquey powerband, so I wouldn't go any higher than a GT2871R (or other manufacturer equivalent) on stock displacement. I'm even considering that turbo for my 2.0L with increased compression.

For this kind of build, APR is a poor choice. They don't customize anything, and their BT tunes are for injectors that might not flow well enough for 400wHP. Either way, plenty of people are having issues with APR on non-APR BT kits. I'd go Eurodyne Maestro or Malone Tuning for this one.

Are you planning on just using your current block for the build then? If so, I've never played with 058 cranks in person so I'm not 100% sure about them, and I don't want to steer you wrong here. Be careful who you take advice from on this issue, as most people are just repeating stuff they heard/read somewhere and have no real first-hand knowledge of what they say. It would really suck to get everything all lined up, only to find out that you're down for another few weeks/months while you sort out the whole engine build again...

And forget the diode mod - it's a hack that's vastly inferior to a proper tune.

Question??

If I do the 3071r turbo will everything around it need to be changed as in FMIC, Injectors, trans, Maf, N75, fuel system etc... Will all these need to be done before I drive the car again? What I'm getting at is can I do the turbo and rods and run it until I get more parts that I can stock pile? Then go full out with the turbo and bottom/topend already done.

I got a lovely suprise by my lawyer mid last week and I have to pay him 4g asap along with penatlies to the government. Financially I'm screwed till this is paid and would like to drive the car still in a reasonable time frame.

Well, you don't need an FMIC, but I wouldn't advise anyone to run much more than 15PSI without one. I'm a fan of FMICs being required once you hit the 20PSI mark. The 26-28PSI you can run with that turbo will create a lot of heat.

The minimum that you need to the run the GT3071 is injectors, fuel pump, and tune. You don't need to upgrade the MAF or N75 for any turbo, but you might want to in order to achieve certain results. That said, I really have no idea how your tranny is going to hold up to this kind of power; maybe check out some B5 forums for real-World experience of Tiptronic guys with BT builds.

Re: So here goes -- slow but steady I hope!!

So Cheeba, you are suggesting a gt2871r turbo right? It will do about 20psi boost all day long and have good tourqe curve and better drivability than the bigger 3071 right? I am definatly not going with a small frame turbo, seems like a waste of time and money. Also I can technically dummy the boost down until I have the other mods to go with it and drive it at 15 with just doing the pump, injectors and program.

I do want a monster but one that is respectable to drive as a daily. I don't want to HAVE to run only race or 94 octance on a daily basis. My estimated goal for this car is to get between 400-450 at the wheels but have it able to run on 91 octane during daily driving and have a nice smooth power curve

Any body had any luck on Ebay for buying a turbo and mod parts?

Re: So here goes -- slow but steady I hope!!

400-450wHP = 3071 or 3076. 450wHP is possible in 2.0L on the 3071, but you'll be max'ing it; the 2871 is not a good 450wHP turbo.

I'm going to assume that you were joking about the eBay thing, and thus continue to help you :D

Re: So here goes -- slow but steady I hope!!

What would be the reasons for not buying a turbo from ebay? They are Garrett turbos arent they? Or are they a offshore peice of junk?

I got alittle bit of money to put into the car now. Still not enough thou, little by little as I attempt to pay my lawyer off at the same time. AARGH!!!

My buddy is intrested in buying my car as an auto with slight upgrades. I might do that and just go buy a manual car to play with. Not really sure yet.

Re: So here goes -- slow but steady I hope!!

NO EBAY TURBO FOR ME!!!! I will be getting an authentic Garrett turbo for my car. The price was pretty enticing thou but you have to pay for reliability is suppose.
