Your exhaust piping size should depend on your final power goals. If you're seriously going to build a 600HP beast, go with 3" now, rather than having to upgrade it again later. A test-pipe is a term for putting a straight pipe in place of the cat. If you're going to do this, find a tune for your car that eliminates the O2 CEL that you'll get from eliminating the cat..

Port matching will likely do nothing at this power level - I'd skip it for real head-work and large-port manifolds when you start the final build. A chip and turbo-back should net ~50-60 Peak HP, and ~100 Peak lb-ft, along with a solid boost in drivability throughout the range. You might want to have a spare Diverter Valve (DV) around in case you pop that old one. For an OEM upgrade, guys often use the 710N ones from the 225HP TTs.

An air intake can net some gain at higher power levels, but will not do much but change the sound on a Stage 1-2 car.

I'm not sure if all 1998 1.8T A4s had AEB heads, but I do know that some did - you should check if you do. The AEB head is a huge advantage in airflow (VAG heads flow notoriously poor) when you start the heavy mod'ing! When you're facing the engine bay, there is a little tab on the front, right corner of the head that will state a three-letter cylinder-head code.

Thanks again mksu19 for that info, think I might go with the ones like your car has. I'll look alittle more into the one peice stuff but that mod is aways away for me right now. Have to deal with the maintainance stuff and get it reliable.

Hi Cheeba, glad you found me. I have put some serious thought into this build and since it is a tiptronic car I will probably only do lightish mods to this one. Been told the tiptronic can only handle 300hp. So unless I find out how to build it into a killer tranny then I won't be looking for 600hp on this car. My 86 4000cs Q was a 5spd and I loved it, god I miss that car :( I will hopefully get this car built nicely and make it super reliable with a touch on performance. Then later on find a B6 or B7 chassis (maybe even a 4000??) with a stick to build into a monster :) Thanks for the tip on me not to waste my time porting also, and the divertor mod :)

You're welcome! By the way, I got mine from an Ebay retailer. I believe his store is called Eurosport Garage or something. Mine cost no more than $225 Shipped and duties paid. Only waited 3 days for it since it came from California. I'm really happy with mine and I think you would too if you decide to get these. I was set to get an OEM S4 headlights but decided against them due to the mod/price thing. Anyways, whatever route you go through, please do post them up! ;)

Oh I will post them up for sure :) That seems like a fair price for the headlights< did that include the signals also?

I might have some pics up later tonight, right now I have the interior gutted and fully cleaning it. And going to get the driver seat fixed. Basically free for me to do so why not, hahaha I am basically doing everything I can do that is cheap or free right now while I wait for my Honda Accord to sell.
