Thinking about buying a B8 S4
Hey!
I am new here, but looking for some advice. I've got a heavily modified Subaru that I am tired of driving so I am looking at getting into a B8 S4 (2010-2011)
Couple of things Im interested in:
MMI - Is it really something I should be looking for? How much better is it over the regular system? It looks impossible to upgrade to an aftermarket stereo system so should I be looking for something with MMI? I keep finding cars that I like, in the price range that I like, but then i see they don't have MMI.
When I am going to look at a used S4, what are some definite things that I should be looking for? I know what to look for on used Subarus but Im a little clueless with Audi.
I am sure I'll have more questions as I go. Thanks in advance.

Hey Zaider,
I recognize your user name from WSC. I came from a 2007 Spec B which sat for sale on WSC forever haha. Anyway I would point you in the direction of potentially buying new. The B8 S4's have been holding their value extremely well.
On WSC right now someone posted a 2010 for $53,000 which is ridiculous when you can buy a 2013 (4 model years newer) for $65,000 totally optioned out. The 2013's premium comes standard with B&O Sound, Navigation - MMI(upgraded version) Which includes back up camera, and the upgraded wheels. It's about $4000 savings over the the MSRP price when you could order 2012's.
I looked forever at used B8's but couldn't justify their insane price tags.
If I were to buy used I would make sure it has a CPO warranty. The two main issues the 2010's had was with water pumps, and sport differential leaks.

Good luck.
For the leaking sport diff, I dont have that on my list of must-have options. Is it really worth it if you're not going to track the car? There's no track here anymore and if I ever get back into racing (I raced the Subaru and have a BMW e12 race car) then I would pick up something different. For day-to-day use, will I notice the sport diff? Is it a must-have?
For the water pump, any way to tell if its going bad (besides an overheated engine)? Is it hard to replace like the Subaru's?
I guess what Im getting at is whether CPO is worth the extra money? The price difference between CPO and non-CPO is $8-10k.
Not yet. Still looking for the perfect car
Any input on MMI? Besides Nav, what else does it give you?

Mine is up for sale but I didn't realize you're in Calgary.
Nav is part of MMI. MMI controls the entire car so with it you also get reverse camera and can control your heat, radio etc....

Yeah, Im pretty set on getting a manual transmission. I've heard good things about the DSG.. but my heart is set on the 6-speed.
I have no problem flying across Canada and driving it back for the right car. Just a question of tracking it down.

Referring only 2010 and 2011 models, the Navi adds back up camera and a second SD card slot whereas the non Navi is half an inch smaller, and a single SD slot.

Interesting.
Is it possible to switch it all out for an aftermarket stereo (doesn't look like it is but I want to confirm)? Or are too many things tied into it?
