New Member..Need Decision On Model
Hello everyone, I'm currently a Mercedes-Benz driver, have it almost all tuned up, etc. I'm looking into getting an Audi as my next car sometime end of the year or next spring. S5 is in mind..however RS5 COULD be an option..not sure. Do take in consideration I love tuning. Is it possible to tune the new S5 3.0T to make it faster than the RS5? Also, another option would be the C63, which is a brutal car both sound and performance wise..it's awesome. S5 gets me at its interior and exterior, as well as its tunes. RS5 gets me for the style/interior, and the V8..but like I said, any tunes out there that I can do to make it better performance wise than the RS5? What model would you choose between the 3? Thanks guys.

S5 all the way!!! You can do more tuning on the 3.0T supercharged motor than you can with the 8cyl 4.2L motor in the RS5. And the 3.0t 6cyl I'd waaaaay better on gas.
That's my 2 cents worth.

I love audi as this is my 3rd one now. but with that being said... even with the S5 being tuned i dont think it comes close to the RS5 stock.
If it were me and i had know about the pricing they have right now on at merc i would have gotten a 2014 c63 loaded and balloon payment at the end for same as i pay for my S4. C63 is just an awesome car!

PhinX404, I can't begin to deny that the C63 is a very sweet car!! It has a certain "elegance". For me I fell in love with the lines of the A5 when I first saw it in Ireland back in '06. Since then I've been a sucker for it. Before buying my S5, I did look at the Mercs with 4matics as AWD is important to me and BMW's, but still choose the S5 because of it's lines.
But the S5 has more potential for increased performance than the RS5. It come with 450 HP stock and a price of around $80K.
The S5 stock is 333hp and a price of $63k. The biggest complaint I've heard and read on forums about the RS5 and previous S5's was the lack of tuning available for the 4.2L motor. Because the 4.2L is normally aspirated the only ways to increase output is exhaust and a Flash. Both of which only give a gain of around 10%. For that add $4K for both.
On the other hand, the 3.0T motor being supercharged and De-tuned from Audi (to meet with industry regs regarding emissions and fuel economy) has huge potential for increased power output. Power the engine was designed to deliver. For example, MRC Tuning has a stage 2 map for the 3.0T motor in the S5 that delivers a staggering 480BHP!! Now I'm no rocket scientist, but the math adds up. S5 for $67K + $4K for the Stage 2 kit is a lot cheaper than buying an RS5!
For me, the S5 wins on all fronts.
For my own curiosity, what kind of reliable power can one tune a C63 up to??

Re: New Member..Need Decision On Model
I recently watched a video of a 2010 S4 avant vs. a new 13RS5. The RS5 was stock. The S4 was in poor condition however was tuned and smoked the RS5. I almost pulled the trigger on the RS5 but I needed back seat space for clients and family. I'd go for the RS5 on looks alone, then factor in that sweet sounding engine and rarity here in Canada.
I just checked YouTube Chris Harris on Cars, show Drive, RS4 vs. S4 both avants. Before and after tune. Good video except they missed out that you need to crack the ecu.

There are quite a few mods for the current B7 RS4 which will have similar results on the RS5. Bolt on JHM RS4's are getting .4 tenths in the 1/4 mile quite easily which is actually a bit better than what a Stage 1 tune does for the 3.0T.
With Stage 2 (Pulley + Stage 2 software), Plus exhaust, Intake, LW Wheels etc cars are getting into the 11.XX range but you need to know how to launch and drive properly. Certain people are in the 11.6-11.7 range but they've spent quite a bit of money on modifications minimum:$10,000. (As little bit less than it would cost to put APR's new supercharger on the RS5 when it comes out).
I love my new S4, and only purchased it since I thought I needed 4 doors. If I could go back in time I would buy the RS5. It wins in Exhaust sound, Looks, Exclusivity, Style and pretty much every other category. I would prefer it to be a manual, but I would give the S-Tronic a chance since the car looks so good.
Also if you don't put the new supercharger on it you will still have a warranty.
