Fuel gauge reads zero

Fuel gauge reads zero
Hi everyone I am new here.
I have a 2000 A3 1.8 turbo quattro in black.
Last weekend I filled up with petrol but then the next day the yellow fuel pump type warning light came on oin the dash and the computer said I had 30 miles of fuel left.
I tried to fill with more but the tank was practically full.
The fuel warning is still on, the computer says I have no fuel left and the gauge shows empty.
Any ideas on what is causing this and how can I fix it?
