ExtremeContact DWS Review
My overall experience with Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires has been excellent. I was able to get them for a wholesale price and have replaced my previous Pirellis and Falkens on my A4 and A6 with these awesome Continentals.
The dry handling is great and on my A6 I'm basically pushing the limits of my worn suspension in order to find the tires' handling limits. On my A4 which has better acceleration and handling than my A6, these tires allow me to corner far better than I expected. With stock suspension on my base A4 I'm able to handle almost as if I have the upgraded sport suspension. These tires have grip almost instantaneously and have warm up times are practically non-existant.
The wet handling is superb, even better than the dry handling of the Pirellis that I had previously. These tires, combined with Quattro allow me to drive through the the crazy weather we've been dealt with lately. I have yet to have either my of my Audis slide the slightest bit during hard cornering in wet weather.
The snow/ice traction is also very good, just slightly lower than a dedicated winter tire. These tires work so well in the snow and ice I can almost compare them to a Michelin X-Ice. Although for safety reasons aggressive driving behaviour isn't recommended in poor driving conditions, I can honestly say that with experience you are still able to do some decent cornering with these tires in the snow and ice.
Regarding longevity of these tires I have put a combined 20,000km with these tires on both vehicles and they still have plenty of life left. I can still see the individual "D", "W" and "S" wear indicators on the tires despite my race-car like habits.
Overall I can't recommend a better tire. I have used Goodyear, Michelin, Pirelli, Falken and many others but these Continentals are number one.
