Re: Imported RS4 Cab to Calgary, need DRL switch disabled

I'm inclined to agree with sakimano although I haven't looked at too many different models recently. When I bought my RS4 back in 2007 I saved a significant amount of money by bringing it in from the US - I paid $87K landed including taxes and new bumpers + shocks (which were required to pass the inspection) for a 6 month old vs $105K+ 13% tax for a new one (could barely find new ones here at the time, much less 6 months old) - at the time it was the difference between me getting an RS4 or not. Although the dollar was sitting roughly at par at the time, there was a much larger difference in price between Canada and the US as the dollar had just come off a slide from nearly 1.20 CDN. At the time Audi transferred and honored both the balance of the existing warranty and the Audi Care coverage here in Canada as was their policy at the time.

I just upgraded my RS4 to an R8 V10 and instinctively looked south of the border when I first started looking around - there are clearly no deals to be had except on cars that are old, out of warranty and being sold by third-party dealers, not exactly what I was looking for. I wound up with a 6 year CPO on a Canadian car (including the GMG exhaust and re-chiped to increase the horsepower) at a price that would be hard to match south of the border. I was happy to give the business to my local Audi reseller who was nice enough to let me test drive the car to determine that it was indeed the one I wanted (before laying out a pretty sizable amount of cash). Mind you, I have serviced my RS4 there since I got it and they never once gave me a hard time about it being a US car - they were awesome to deal with and so was Audi.

Driving to, let alone having to cross, the border (1.5h to get to and as much as 1h to cross) isn't really worth it to me at any cost but you may be in a better situation.

Whatever you decide, enjoy your AUDI! They are awesome cars.

Regards,

ps.
