Imported RS4 Cab to Calgary, need DRL switch disabled

Hey Folks,

New to the forums. I just imported a 2008 RS4 Cab and am happy as hell.

However, the DRL can be disabled via a switch, and I failed my Out of Province inspection yesterday because of that.

The Audi dealerships in Calgary have said around $600 to do the work.

Anyone with Vag-Com in town willing to help out, if possible, for a bit of extra spare cash?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Cory

I have enquired about the same problem as I plan to import an Audi shortly. Please keep me informed about your progress on your search for someone to assist with the reprogramming of the MMI to disable the DRL switch. There is a list of members of this forum who have the cables. I understand that this is a simple 5 minute job (see correspondance from Warcity under Q5 discussions). However, I am uncertain whether any work done by anyone other than an Audi dealer in Canada would satisfy RIV and the Alberta authorities. The cost the local dealerships are quoting is rediculous and infair. Perhaps someone should file a complaint with Audi Canada.

wait a second....so the RS4 you're importing has a DRL switch right by the headlights (like 2007 + B7 S4s do) and because of this, they won't let you pass inspection? Find a new inspection office. RIV gives you a whole bunch. Or just rip the frigging little dial out when you go to inspection..and when you get there, make sure the DRLs are already on.

When I went, I just had the drls turned on, and the guy got in and said 'oh that's great that there's a little toggle switch...BMWs and Mercedes you have to pay the dealer to turn them on'.

the programing does not override the switch and some inspectors don't approve of that as you can shut if off anytime, and Stoneman I can do it for you

1move, sounds like you're a popular guy.

I'm also bringing an RS4 into Calgary from the US in a few weeks and would be happy to contract your services.

pls send contact info (phone) if you're interested.

best regards,

Hello all, I am looking at bringing in a 2011 S4 and wondering if the CPO warranty would be honored here or if I should just get the dealership to remove it and just leave the regular warranty. The dealer has told me that the CPO does not transfer, but when I call Audi head office, the agent told me that it would infact be honored. Anyone have any insight into this??

lots of conflicting information

I'd be inclined to believe Audi, but that conflicts with what I've heard about CPO in the past.

Why are you importing a 2011 in the first place? There's really no financial gain to doing so, especially with the dollar back at par (vs. being 3-4% in the CAD favour before the recent economic concerns showed up at the end of July)

Trusting that the inspection issue has been resolved...I agree with Sakimano on both counts... I imported an 08 S4 Avant with the same set up and used CDN Tire for the inspections, and passed with flying colours.
My avant also has CPO and I had to escalate to a VP at Audi's HO in the US...due to the numerous conflicting stories I rec'd. The final answer ws that the remainder of my 4yr/80,000 factory would be honoured anywhere in NA,howver since May 2005 the CPO warranty is country specifi and US CPO warranties are NOT honoured by CDN dealers. I'm still dumbfounded by Audi's logic, as I simply drive across the line 16 km to a Audi dealer, who honours all of the warranties, andas a result gets allot of my other aftermarket puchase business as well. Wake up Audi Canada, you're loosing business....
