Question Buying an '02 A4 1.8T Quattro

Hi All,

I'm hoping to be a noob in the Audi scene.

My friend wants to sell me her 2002 A4 1.8T Quatto. It's a beauty of a car with the sport package on 'er.

It only has 130,000 km on it, and she has all the service records for the regular maintenence.

I'm going to take it in for an inspection, is there anything I should be on the lookout for?

Thanks for all the support,

Grant

Check if it's had the timing belt done. If not, get that done along with a water pump replacement while they're in there. Turbo should be good but wouldn't hurt to check it for leaks.

Ask her if she ever got the fuel pump replaced or if it's original. I have an 04 A4 with 80K's on it and my fuel pump just died last week. Ignition coils can also fail so you may want to get those looked at as well. And yes, as mentioned above check the timing belt.

Timing belt replacement can be anywhere from $800 to $2000 depending on where you get it done. The stealership will be at the top range while the small independant garage will be at the bottom. The thing with an Audi is, you don't want to bring it to the cheapest place to have it worked on. Take it to a shop with a good reputation. And if you can't find one that you're happy with, take it to the stealership. It might cost alot more but they know what they're doing...most of the time. Not sure what kind of car you had previously but I wouldn't be taking my Audi to any old Joe's garage. Search the forums here for a reputable shop in your area.
