Default Winter Rims and Tires

I have a 2006 Audi A4 with 17" rims and tire size 235/45/17. I am looking for winter tires and rims and wondering if I buy 16" rims and tire size 215/55/16, is that going to cause any problems, since this size of rim gives a lot more choices for tires and is cheaper.

you should not have a problem with the 16" wheels..most people downsize to a 16" from a 17 in the winter...have a great day!

I have the same summer size 235 45 17, P6s. I have located a set of winters on new Audi S5 wheels. Size of tires though are 225 50 17.
Any advice on whether these too different?

make sure the wheels clear the calipers...that's where it gets sketchy...try the wheels firsthand before paying out...

Actually going down a size from your original equipment to the tire size 215/55-16 is perfectly fine. The minus size in diameter of the wheel is 1" smaller but this is also offset by the tire size of the sidewall being 1/2" taller.

It is sometimes recommended to go a minus size than your OEM rim size as traction is enhanced with smaller width in the tire.
