Winter Rims and Tires
I have a 2006 Audi A4 with 17" rims and tire size 235/45/17. I am looking for winter tires and rims and wondering if I buy 16" rims and tire size 215/55/16, is that going to cause any problems, since this size of rim gives a lot more choices for tires and is cheaper.

Re: Winter Rims and Tires
you should not have a problem with the 16" wheels..most people downsize to a 16" from a 17 in the winter...have a great day!

Re: Winter Rims and Tires
I have the same summer size 235 45 17, P6s. I have located a set of winters on new Audi S5 wheels. Size of tires though are 225 50 17.
Any advice on whether these too different? Garry |

Re: Winter Rims and Tires
Actually going down a size from your original equipment to the tire size 215/55-16 is perfectly fine. The minus size in diameter of the wheel is 1" smaller but this is also offset by the tire size of the sidewall being 1/2" taller.
It is sometimes recommended to go a minus size than your OEM rim size as traction is enhanced with smaller width in the tire. |
