Since my wife shattered my front bumper and separated the the flex connections on the mufflers of my 2000 S4 I'm interested in seeing what is available to replace these OEM parts...

Welcome, you should consider some downpipes, possibly 034, tectonics, ASP, Piggies. Tons of options you just have to know what you want, or what your plans for the car in the future are

I'm looking mostly for improved performance and a sound that will bring a smile... nothing too loud to wake the neighbors. Still my daily driver.

 

You might want to consider piggie downpipes with high flow cats, that is the cheapest route for downpipes. If you are looking for a good cheap alternative, look for a set of SS Autochrome. I guess if you can tell us what your pricerange is, we can let you know opinions of DP's in that range
