Default I hope this is a dumb question

Hi all,

I've been the proud owner of a 2006 A4 Quattro for just over two weeks now and I have what will probably turn out to be a dumb question:
When my rear wheels start to slip on ice or snow I hear a thunking noise coming from somewhere in the rear of the car. My past experience with traction control suggest that this is a normal noise associated with the ABS system working, but I wanted to make sure. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Is the ESP light coming on? If not...then I'd have it check...but I'm not 100% sure there.

That does not sound normal at all. Check engine light on? You should scan it for codes.

So the noise I'm hearing is actually the EDL using the ABS to limit wheel spin. I guess I did a poor job of describing the noise in my earlier post.
