Default Headlight switch issue

Hi guys, the headlight, fog light switch on the dash beside the steering wheel, I've noticed a problem with. When I turn the lights on, the headlight symbol on the switch does not light up, the park light lights and both the fog lights. All the lights outside work fine, I noticed last night that the main beam symbol which is on the switch started flashing and now does not come on, is this a switch problem or a loose connection and how do I remove the switch. thanks guys!

Oh ye its a 2004 a4 1.9tdi multitronic, and I've just ordered a TCM for 700 euro...! ( another 400 to get fitted by my local garage! Hmm!

I have the same issue that I am battling right now. Go to a public library and you will find a repair manual for A4, or you can download if you search.. I will try to make a DIY by the end of this week as I am fixing mine, and I will post it.

It is the switch...but to make sure, check this: flash your high beams and keep it pressed, see if it lights up, it should a couple of times but after that it wont work at all...there seems to be a problem with the switch, a piece of plastic breaks which causes any lights to not work....do your dash lights turn on when you put the headlight switch to position 1 or 2?

Yep every light works apart from the headlight symbol which lights up for 4 seconds and then goes out! No other issues with lights so far... knock wood!!!

It is a pretty simple procedure to take out the switch. I think you push it in and then turn it clockwise or counter clockwise and the whole assembly comes out. i will look at the manual.

Yeah you gotta remove a bunch of paneling/ trimming, to access yours as far as I remember.

I just ordered a new switch on ebay total cost 43 euro including shipping, its a genuine part and new. Audi Ireland wanted 110 euro...

I removed the paneling under the stearing wheel, then got stuck... couldn't see what needs to be done next although the switch sits in a housing unit can't see how this comes off though!

Check my first post in this thread it sits in its own housing and can be removed without removing any paneling on the b6.

OK so I got my new switch in the post, replacing it was easy, removed some paneling and it pretty much popped out, however when I connected the new switch, all the light came on, as if the switch was turned on but it wasn't, I reconnected the old one and the lights stayed off until I turned the switch to the on position. Can anyone tell me why this is so... Can it be a dodgy switch?
