What is the "through load" option?
On the Q5 build screen is an option for Through Load for $250 and a picture of a ski bag.
What exactly is this? As I understand the back seats are 40-20-40 by default, so the middle seat folds down? What is this option if different from that which I thought was standard?

Exactly. Middle seat folds down and your skis go into the trunk and through the middle seat. This is a bag type material that allows the skis to go through it so the skis don't actually sit on top of your leather seat in the back.
If you have skis just get cross bars on put the on the roof.
