Hi,

I had the dealership install a tow package on my Q5, but I didn't realize they were actually going to use aftermarket parts. According to the manual a properly installed tow package will do things like disable the park assist and side assist when a trailer is connected. The problem is, I have no idea whether it was installed according to these requirements. When querying the dealership, they referred me to the aftermarket place who did the install. They told me there were no directions provided by Audi to install the tow package to meet their specs. I've asked the dealership to investigate this for me, but they aren't turning up much. Has anyone else had an aftermarket tow package installed, and had any luck tracking down what Audi's requirements are to install according to their specs?

That's pretty odd, back when I got my car in Sep 2009 I asked them to do a tow install they told me because the car is so new no one in the dealership has any training on how to install. Then I suggested doing it myself aftermarket and they strongly recommended against doing so for the same reason.

The two package needs to be connected directly somehow to the ESP so the car's ESP can adjust accordingly based on the weight being towed. I saw specific references to side and park assist. I know the side assist you can just turn off by pressing the button on the mirror but I am pretty sure you can't with park assist.

I suggest you to call the dealership to see if they've enabled these options using vag-com.

I have seen about 3-4 options in the vag-com menu that must be checked off if a two package is installed
