steering stiff at low speed
I have a 2010 Q5, for the past few months, when I back the car out from the garage, I feel that the steering was not smooth, kind of stiff and when I turned the wheel, it is "knotty", Is this normal? Thanks for the advice.
Well the steering wheel is speed sensitive so at high speed it's suppose to get stiff but at low speed it should be nice and smooth. Has this behavior been consistent since you got the car or is it something new? Does the wheel make any kind of abnormal sound when you turn it?
Thanks for the response warcity. The stiffness definitely comes from low speed. No abnormal noise. I guess it has been like that since it was new. I casually asked the audi service rep and he says that is normal. I just don't know whether I should believe him or not.
If you're "noticing it" then it can't be normal
that's how I look it. My suggestion is this, make a service app with them (since it's free and covered) go in, do a quick test drive of another Q5 on their lot and point out the difference between your car and their car, that's the easiest way.
I don't think at low speed it should be stiff at all, unless the car is not moving.

You can also call the service department of any Audi dealer and ask them to tell you if this is normal. They're pretty good over the phone, also saves a trip.
