Default Some Questions

First post though I have been lurking in the background for some time.

Ordered a 2011 Q5 2.0 - Meteor Grey, Cinnamon interior, Audi Care, Nav Pkg, B&O, Panorama Sunroof, Adaptive Headlights, 19" tires and Black Styling pkg.

Confirmed vehicle is in production with a delivery date of late December or early January.

The dealer provided a list of additional options that included package deals. I'm not going to pay the Dealer to be the middle man but I had some questions on specific offerings:

1. When I get the vehicle I intend to immediately get the exterior cleaned and put on 3M or some type of protection film. I had read that it is better to have a custom kit that wraps around exposed surfaces/edges rather than a pre-cut installation. Is this overkill?
I see Krown Laskshore is offering 3M but apparently is not a "certified by 3M" installer. Anyone have any experience with Krown on installing 3M? One member recommended Pure:Auto. Any recommendations for the west end of GTA?

2. Boomerang theft protection. I could not find a lot of discussion around vehicle theft and adding Boomerang as an option. Costs range in the $1,400-$1,600. Is theft prevention needed? The vehicle will be parked in the garage over night and I work from home most days. One forum member suggested that if they want to steal the car they will find a way so don't bother adding theft protection.

3. Warranty. Dealer is offering additional warranty coverage thru SecureDrive. It is my intention to keep the vehicle so I am thinking about getting additional coverage and I realize I don't need to make this decision right now. The Dealer also has a package called the Titan Vehicle Protection which covers Tire, Wheel, Windshield, Dent & Ding, Key, Remote replacement for $1,070 - 3 years. These items do not appear to be covered by extended warranty thru SecureDrive. Is it worth the additional expense?

I have found this forum to be be both educational and entertaining.
Any advice or comments is appreciated.

Don

I had my windows tinted at Krown Lakeshore and we recently had a meet there. Igor is not only a sponsor of this site but a true enthusiast. I would at least talk to him and perhaps go and see him to see what he can offer and do for you.

Since your intent is to keep the vehicle and your in for the long haul I would purchase the extra warranty. Having said that read the fine print and make sure you know what you are buying.

Save your money, it's Christmas time. Get your dealer to install 3M Stoneguard. Boomerang: Just got back from Brasil (Sao Paulo- Yes: Milton Ontario - No). Checked extended warranty, you're looking around 3k up front for years (5-7). For peace of mind if you think your going to spend over that amount poss. down the road then go for it. For me I'd use that money as a deposit on a new improved Q5.

I put 3M protection on my Q5 day after I bought it. Only on the hood; used local car shop - 225$ installed. Very happy with it.
I wouldn't worry about theft protection much since it is protected by default. That should be enough to reroute potential thief.
I thought about extended warranty too. I plan to keep car for 6-8 years. It's about 3K; decided not to buy it up front, although later it will cost more it you change your mind.

Extended warranties cost the same today, as they will later. The dealer will tell you that so that you buy it now. Simply make sure to get it before the factory warranty expires.

Hi Alex
although I got my Q5 somewhere else, when the time comes and I want to get extended warranty, can I get it from you as I am not totally happy with the service before. Also any idea how much would it cost? Is it from the manufacturer or from another third party. Thanks in advance.

Sure you can, and I'll get you a disocunt. The new extended warranties available as of November 1st are offered by Audi.

Thanks Alex. I am leaning to get it before the manufacturer warranty expire. So far, I have replaced fuel injectors and water pump on mine Q5 and the costs (if I have to pay) are kind of expensive. Thanks again.

What about sherlock marking on all important pieces. Is it recommended?
