A remote starter would only void the warranty if there's proof that it was the cause of the problem you need warrantied. If you get a high quality starter installed at a reputable install shop (NOT bestbuy/futureshop/visions/etc.) you won't have any problems.

When my Q5 arrives in 2 weeks I'll be getting a Viper remote starter with SmartStart. This allows you to communicate with your vehicle from literally anywhere. Features with this include Lock/arm, Unlock/disarm, Remote car starter, Trunk release, Panic or car finder all from an app on your cell phone. Awesome!

Q5's electrical system is very complex (in a good way) if anyone can install a remote starter successfully I'd be very impressed. About the warranty being voided only if they can prove it's the cause; I'd call Audi Canada to confirm that if I were you.

Good luck.

Absolutely agree with warcity. Call Audi Canada and find out, even more, have them send you letter confirming it. You don't want a headache associated with warranty voidance and proving who is right or wrong if something goes bad. I can smell legal action on that one too.
It could get really ugly.

Waiting for my Q5 3.2 to arrive in about 2 weeks.

Was asking the dealer about the remote starter as I got one on my 2007 EDGE and really love it. Especially that my garage is occupied by my summer car project and my wife is using hers.

The dealer recommended to use only the model they installed. I think it is a Python 2 way system. They charge $899 for it (installed) and did not say anything about warranty being void if installed by the dealer.

They did not recommend to have it done elsewhere (...).

The one I have on th eEDGE is a NuStart 8000 and was installed by Bestbuy. Worked fine for 4 years (still) but for the Audi I would only do it at the dealer.
Ford system is probably easier to work with than Audi.

My dealer in Montreal, Audi Prestige, offered to install a remote starter for $850.00.
No mention of warranty issues whatsoever.

Reading yours post got me worried, I'm going to check with them.

Close but not the same dealer!
Mine is on transcanadienne in St-Laurent, near the 520/40 merge.

Pretty sure it's the same model starter, 2 way with startup confirmation.
It was their only model so I took it regardless of the model/price and it will be installed prior to delivery.

They did put heavy emphasys on not installing it elsewhere due to complicated electronics.

I was told it is the same owner.

Is this the remote model they offered you?
Python 580 2 way system?

I know it's a Python and the remotes look similar but I don't know the exact model number, it's probably the exact same.

Edit* I went on the python website and that's the only 2-way model they carry so it definitely has to be the same.
