Q7 3.6L fuel efficiency - test results!
So I've had my Q7 since end of Jan 2011 now and finally got the chance to really test it out on a long stretch: Ottawa to Orlando and back.
A few things: We were 2 adults and 2 kids (Total of approx 450lbs) plus luggage (2 large suitcases and 2 carry-ons) for a grand approximate total load of 600 lbs.
I used 91 octane in Ottawa the morning we left and 93 octane in the U.S. Total trip was 2281 km and I have used just over 3 full tanks of gas. I averaged 9.8L per 100km by diligently doing 110 km/h on cruise control with a few spikes to 120-125 when I really had to pass, which was very seldom on the way down there. I reached 785km on the 1st tank with the computer telling me I still had 98km left in the tank. I reach 802km on the second tank with 65 km left according to computer.
On the way back, we had an additional 50-60 lbs in souvenirs, wet beach towels etc and I set my cruise control to 120 km/h. My mileage only went down about 50-70 km per tank (that includes quite a few stretches of 10-12 miles at 130 km/h) and I actually hit the kick-down (sports mode) a dozen times to get around heavy Ontario traffic returning home and still did great mileage!
Overall very good on the highway when using moderate speeds but kinda drinks more heavily when in town.....but again, I have a heavy foot in the city.
