Default Q5 turbo diesel next year ?

Saw in montreal paper that audi has confirmed a Q5 turbo diesel trim next year. I guess that would be for MY 2013?

Can someone confirm?

jlr_1304,
no official confirmation from Audi Canada, at least I haven't received anything. Can you post a link to the article?

It would be highly unlikely that diesel comes to Canada soon. It's been lots of rumors and so far nothong came out of it.

Maybe Audi will scrap hybrid deal for America and bring diesel. That seems to be only reasonable way why diesel engine could be considered.

As much as I'm excited about diesel coming to Canada, diesel here is quite different from Europe. Due to very strict emission requirements in NA, diesel is more expensive to manufacture and maintain (although it's a simpler technology than gas); you have to look for gas stations that sell diesel plus, mechanics here are not as well trained on diesel as in Europe. According to one of the articles I read, 80% of all Mercedes SUVs in Germany are diesel vs. 1-3% in Canada. Obviously, German techs are much more skilled than here.
After considering all of the above, I'm quite pleased with the Premium 2.0T choice I made.

WOW what a wacked out logic. Do you know the % of Bluetec Mercedes ML and R Class?
I believe you will find it over 50% for sure and VW Touaregs are higher still.
You made the correct choice for you because ignorance is Bliss LOL
Enjoy

Dealer told me that an International pollution standard for diesels is coming in force for 2014 so refresh time 2013 will likely be the time for TDI but you never know in Canada.
They have to crash a certain amount of vehicles for safety certification when they make a change, especially something as extensive as a motor so Audi will likely do that at refresh time 2013.

Ignorance is bliss, you said it right. If there was a choice between gasoline Q5 and diesel Q5 in Canada, then there would be grounds for debate, as there's currently no such choice in Canada, the whole thing is a moot point.
As a celebrated British Prime Minister said one day, "There's lies, damned lies and statistics", the fact remains, there's considerably more gas passenger vehicles on the road in Canada and US than diesel ones, plus diesel is harder to find at gas stations.
As this thread is all about dreaming about diesel Q5 coming to Canada, let's just keep on hoping, because for some people it will be the right and very much desired choice.

Just for the record, I used to drive diesel in the past and believe it's has huge advantages over gasoline engines. It also has it's drawbacks.

'used to drive diesel'

are you talking about a mkII VW you drove in the 90s or something? Diesel has changed quite a bit since then. The quality of the fuel and availability are night and day. It's not too expensive relative to gasoline...check the prices next time you're filling up.

All around a lot of what you are saying sounds like the old-school rhetoric that has held diesel back here in North America. Why not say it's dirty and causes soot everywhere?

As for a Q5 TDI, a 2.0TDI might be fun, but a 3.0TDI just seems like overkill. I think it'll be a tough sell, although I'd ditch my B8 A4 2.0TFSI Avant in a heartbeat for a 2.0TDI Q5. Considering the dealerships are already tooled for 2.0TDI A3s...and 3.0TDI Q7s, it should not be a concern. Further, saying the mechanics aren't skilled on diesel is absurd. They're trained on each new FSI engine...and will be trained on each new diesel engine. Further, don't forget that Audi isn't mercedes so who cares how many bluetec MLs there are? Audi is part of VAG and last time I checked, those mechanics at VW Canada dealerships (which are often joint Audi/VW dealerships) have PLENTY of experience with diesel.

p.s. here's a sample of gasoline vs. diesel in Oakville
http://www.torontogasprices.com/GasP...qsrch=oakville

since we drive Audis, we buy premium fuel. i.e. we pay $1.23 per litre for gasoline. Diesel? 1.13 with about 25-30% greater efficiency. Explain how the cost is a big concern?
