Q5 Transmission Problem

Q5 Transmission Problem
I am currently in North Carolina with a Toronto-based 2011 Q5, 2.0T. Halfway here the transmission developed a strange fault. When necessary due to an upgrade, it would downshift (which is normal) then slam immediately back into the higher gear with an uncomfortable thunk. This occurred initially when in cruise, towing a light windsurfing trailer. Subsequent experimentation, however, shows that it does it with or without cruise activated and with or without the trailer. Left alone, it continues to thunk and intervention is necessary.
We visited Audi of Chantilly, VA but no codes were found which could provide any clue and they offered essentially no help (for $150US).
Does anyone have any clues about the nature of the problem? We think we can nurse it back to Toronto by gentle feathering of the accelerator but then what? A call to its regular dealer shed little light on the issue - the service advisor claimed he had never heard of a Q5 transmission failure.
Thanks for any help,
Mike

Re: Q5 Transmission Problem
Thanks for the link. I had the adaption TSB performed a couple of months ago. It did make the downshifts approaching a stop sign more gentle. This recent problem is new, since the adaption, and is much more violent. It occurs at highway speeds under acceleration.

Re: Q5 Transmission Problem
Just an update to close this thread ... The issue turned out to be a severe misfire which is, according to the service advisor, a big deal on a 4-cylinder turbo engine. The transmission seems fine. Audi replaced all the fuel injectors (per TSB) and I paid for one new coil pack, one new spark plug and cleaning of the intake valves.
Fingers crossed, but the Q5 was declared good to go for another 125,000 km.
