Q5 panoramic roof wind noise when closed
Good day all,
Been a while since my last visit and contribution to the forum.
After a bit over 3 months with my Q5, I would like to say that I am satisfied with the car.
No water pump issue (so far).
The only annoying issue I have discovered is that I have a wind induced noise when driving on the highway at around 100-120kph. The exact speed at which the wind noise starts depends on the outside wind and direction.
We are just back from a trip to Quebec city for Easter weekend and my son and wife were trying to locate from where the noise comes from.
It is coming from the rear passenger side, and most probably from the roof.
This is when the roof is closed by the way. When open the noise is less noticeable due to the "normal" wind noise created by the fact the roof is openned.
I sounds like a piece is loose and chatters when the proper wind condition exists.
It is extremely annoying from a car of that value.
I am planning to take it to the dealer soon but would like to know if someone else have experience this also.

Re: Q5 panoramic roof wind noise when closed
Good day all,
Here's an update on my situation.
Brought the car to the dealer yesterday for this issue.
Told them I wanted to drive the car for the road test with the service man in the back seat to try to pinpoint the problem.
It was raining, as usual these weeks, and had to get the car to a "higher speed" than usual on the highway. He finally heard the sound I was trying to explain.
We ended up close to my work place so I told him there is no point for me to get back to the dealer and get a ride again to the office, here's the car, you heard what I am talking about. It's all yours. Good luck.
So here he went.
Later that day, I called for a status and that I needed a shuttle if car was not ready.
Car was ready and they told me they had found something and they think it is fixed now.
So, that the end of the day I was waiting for the shuttle in my work place parking lot and here's the Audi Prestige float truck sitting there and waiting. Well, I proceed to get in but the driver got out and handed me my keys and the shop floor work order (after proer Id check). The car was sitting there in the parking lot all washed and clean.
They had brought the car to my work place on a float..Woww!
I proceeded to read the "fix" on the shop order and guys there was a full page of details about the number of road tests, the mileage, the speed at which they tried (remember my rattling issue was speed or wind dependant).
Anyway, I never had such details written by a floor mechanics in any of my shop reports in my life.
Bottom line is the problem was with the hatch "spoiler", you know the top portion of the hatch where the third brake light resides. It was a bit loose (more than the other Q5 in the lot he compared to) and the mechanics added some rubber pads.
Problem fixed. no more wind or speed induced noise from the rear even at speed up to .... (sorry I can't disclose the speed I tested at )
It was my first experience with the dealer service department and I give them the

Marc:
This is fantastic news. I'm glad it's fixed. All my experiences with Audi service have been top notch. Looks like this time they went slightly above and beyond. Customer sat and retention is key.
I'm glad you're all fixed up.

Glad it all worked out.
1. Was this all covered on the warranty? (i.e. free)
2. regarding your speed: Not to worry, I'm sure that "to the best of your recollection" you were on a supervised, well lit, private road
3. there's a "recommendations for dealership/service" thread some where in this forum. If you could quickly add to that thread, it'd help out drivers in your area.

Answer to #2: Yeap, it was my on "private road" that I share with my friends every morning. After 20 years using the same road, and, considering the amount of tax we pay in Quebec for the roads, I can claim I own it some of it now. I see it like a "time sharing vacation condo" ya know.
Answer #3: i'll have a look at it. Thanks
Marc
