Default How do people post MPG / L/100km?

Everyone seems to ask about real-world results with people seemingly posting pretty specific figures.

Where are people getting these figures from? Is it:
- Some display onboard that tells you?
- Keeping all gas receipts and using the odometer/fuelup #s to do the math?
- Something else?

I'm sure on the wiper stalk right at the end there is button to scroll through your cluster display.

I'm simply basing this off of the 2 Audi cars I've owned.

While I have found some on board readouts to be quite close, I would only post my own calculations.

And that's based on using fillup receipts and odometer readings?

Yes but you need to do it over several fills to get good numbers because there will be variations in how full you get the tank each time.

For know the L/100km number, I track my fuel usage with the iPhone app "Car Care", and it keeps a lot of other car specific information handy as well. The website, Fuelly.com, will do the same thing, plus allowing for others to know what L/kM others are getting.
