I just got my Q5 3.2 last month.My daughter found out this week that after turning off the engine in the garage,there is a kind of cracking sound coming from the bottom of the car.(as if coming from the pipe),which died off maybe in 5 minutes.

Did anyone have same kind of experience? I called audi and was told it is ok as long as there is no warning light.

 

Is the sound after the engine is turned off and could it be the exhaust cooling off? Explain in more detail what the sound is?

 

Yes ,you are right the sound is after the engine is turned off. The sound is just like a kind of light cracking sound .

 

sounds to me like it the exhaust cooling off.
cooler outside temps might make this more apparent now than a month ago.

nothing to cause concern, my G35 was crazy for the crackling sounds. lol
