Busted windshield
Almost 3 months in with our Q5 and a large stone fell off a truck beside us on the 401, about the size of a tennis ball and smashed our windsheild.
I have 350 deductible with my insurance, does anyone know the cost of a full windshield repair? Should I go through my insurance, I have a 7 star rating with no accidents and I don't really want to taint that for a windsheild.

Hi, iamdman. Sorry to hear about the windshield. Did a quick search and found this on the A4 Forum...might help:

i work in the insurance industry and I can tell you it depends. Call your insurance company and see if they will treat it as a not-at-fault or a winshield chip. Winshield chips are covered for free(usally without a deducitable) if you have full coverage. If your company treats it as a not at fault your rates wont go up due to the claim.
I've called around, all the glass companies tell me windshield falls under comprehensive, pretty much all insurances companies will give you 1 or 2 claims under comprehensive with no impact to premiums, especially glass repairs as they are so common. RBC confirmed this with me. I chose an RBC Insurance prefered installer to do this job.
I noticed the glass on the Q5 is made by a US company called Guardian, its stamped on my glass in the bottom corner. I want the same glass and the company I am going with told me I will be getting Guardian so that made me feel a bit better (perhaps there are no other choices Q5 is fairly new). I hope it comes with the Audi symbol on the glass (bottom passenger side) like my current glass has, I read in another forum somewhere that this glass will.
Some companies were offering to eat most of my deductible (leaving us with only having to pay $50) but they seemed a bit fishy, they couldn't give me specifics or a guarantee I would be getting Guardian glass. Then I read this on a web site which makes a lot of sense on how some of these guys can offer such low deals:

The best glass for your car is "0-E glass" meaning "original equipment" - the brand of glass it was built with. Unfortunately, some glass shops are installing a lower quality imported glass. It often needs to be "forced fit" to your vehicle, and is often thinner and much more brittle - all of which cause it to chip and break more easily, or crack from stress. A company that has chosen to use ONLY "0-E glass" will give you superior performance along with the safety and protection when you need it most. A company that has chosen to use only experienced and certified installers, installers that have plenty of experience doing installations in vehicle just like yours.

Folks:
As much as I hope non of us ever have this problem and some of us certainly never again, I just wanted to say how great and valuable this information is. Thanks to you both.
