Default Brand New Q5 problems

Hi -

Has anyone experienced any of the following with their Q5s:

1) Poor body panel fit & alignment. I am pretty sure I got a lemon. The exterior fit and and finish is poor on my brand new Q5 (14km at delivery) and IMO doesn't look as good as any other Q5 or new Audi.

2) Panoramic roof problems. My Q5 is two weeks old and after operating the roof maybe a total of 15-20 times, I now have a bulge in the weatherstripping right in the middle on the passenger side. It looks as if the roof / guide is pinching and pushing the weatherstripping on that side, which is not the case on the driver's side.

Any thoughts or suggestions ?

Sorry to hear about your issue gr8dane. I still haven't taken delivery of mine (late Oct delivery), so I can't comment on your actual question (yet). However, have you spoken with the dealer about the problem? I am curious to hear how they respond to an issue like this.

My expectation is that after spending ~$60K on a car, the dealer will want to over-service the owner and make sure that everything is in optimal condition. I'd hope they want to make this right for you asap. How are they responding / treating you?

Thanks,
Steve

Hi there:

I am sorry to hear about your issues. Certainly not normal. I haven't heard anything like this ever before. One thing though off topic 14K at delivery seems really really high, did you mean to type 1.4?

Take it into the dealer get them to fix it and fix it good and give you a free loaner. You have to be very firm with them. If you don't see the result you're looking for, call Audi Canada.

Keep us posted.

Sorry I totally misread the above. 14km is not much at all, perfectly normal and within range. My apologies.

I haven't experienced the problems you describe, but I did have some issues with the paint. On the edges of some body parts it looked like the paint had been rubbed and had left a mark. I informed my dealership when I was in for servicing and they had it fixed no charge. They probably should have caught it on PDI, but they were excellent about cleaning it up after.

None of these issues with my 2011 Q5. I have had it about 10 days now and the only issue was with the DRLs on the passenger side going out. They replaced the entire headlight assembly and now all is well.

Knock on wood my friend. DRL burning out in the first 10 days is a pretty big inconvenience too. I am glad you got it fixed.

Folks:

Just to add to these minor issues.

1) When the car is still or at a very low speed, when you turn the steering it vibrates. I have this as long as my fellow forum member. We spoke to Audi, this is a known issues. Audi is looking for a solution before they issue a bulletin for it.

2) Engine misfire while starting up. Known issue there is a fix for it although the fix hasn't'quite worked for some people. As long as a warning light doesn't come on, you're okay and nothing is being damaged.

3) Whining noise when you turn the steering at low speed. I had this issue, had it fixed this weekend.

It's worth mentioning this next time you go in. Non of these are serious.

Cheers.

Thanks Warcity
I have a 2010 Q5 and I had problems 1 and 2. One is still outstanding, problem two is fixed by replacing 4 out of 6 fuel injectors. Very frustrating to deal with these small problems on a supposedly expensive SUV.

Yeah I hear you. 1 Audi Canada is working on a a solution. Best thing to do is call them once a every few months see if they have a solution if so take it in.

I have number 2 as well. I am going to take it in and ask them to change all 6 injectors. I don't have time to go there numerous time for them to change it one by one. They will probably refuse this option.

The only problem with number 2 is diagnostics which will over ride all my vag-com mods which is a pain to have to redo .
