Audi Q5 Touchscreen Conversion

Re: Audi Q5 Touchscreen Conversion
Touch screens are overrated and get dirty fast and hence look like crap. I could see Audi using them in the future but they are definitely not being used now by choice. The one big area where I can see touch screen as an improvement is with navigation. I find the navigation system to be quite cumbersome to go though and don't really like it at all.

Re: Audi Q5 Touchscreen Conversion
I have an iphone and an ipad, which are fingerprint magnets and needs to be cleaned regularly. I didn't opt for the factory dvd/nav system b/c I figure I don't really need them and I'm CHEAP.
I am just wondering how complicated it would be to actually get this system working. For $500-600, its about the same as an ipad, so I am comfortable with buying the system.
Functionally, I think that it uses the mode button on the steering wheel to toggle thru the functions, 1 for the stock radio/hvac functions, 2 for the gps (i think its garmin software) and 3 for the dvd player in the glove box. I don't think the Audi computer is going to complain. There's also a rear camera option, that presumably will not come up automatically.
The touchscreen goes over the stock screen.
The pain in the *** part is to take apart the car to get at the stock unit and then put it back together. After all that work, I probably won't use it that much anyways.

Hey, I have also searched for an option and this is what I have come across
a post in oz audi forums for a reverse camera with touch screen
Looks like some positive feedback, however fingerprints do show

Re: Audi Q5 Touchscreen Conversion
Touchscreen is nice. But it totally gets dirty and I was constantly cleaning it. I actually didn't think I'd like the ****, but I do. It's easier to select certain functions without having to look at the screen (by listening to the clicks).
