Aftermarket NAV/Rear View question

Aftermarket NAV/Rear View question
Need some forum expertise....I decided not to pay for the Premium just to get the Nav - I figured it would be better to buy an aftermarket.
If I get a reputable company to install a NAV does this mean they need to rip out the Audi sound system also?
Will the NAV system work via the MMI and display console?
Also, is there a list of decent companies that do this work in the GTA. I'm close to Eglinton and the DVP.
Thanks

Re: Aftermarket NAV/Rear View question
Hello audi_al,
I do not have definite answer to your question but I am pretty sure that any aftermarket will not be useable with the MMI.
First, If you do not get the nav, you do not get the MMI button and access cursor, I think.
Someone else can better confirm.
I have the NAV on my Q5 premium along with the B&O and it is the best options I have made.
You're paying, what 55k+ for a car and will live with a windshield suck cup GPS with the wires hanging around?
Remember that you get more than just the NAV with the option. The Audi NAV have the route display in you driving view between the speedometer and the tach and you can still have the MMI screen to display songs and radio.
I do this all the time when I program the GPS. When I do not need special views of the road (like 300km+ on highway), I switch the MMI to radio or media and when I need some details (exit or city street) I switch back the big screen to NAV.
With aftermarket, you will not benefit from the little color display in the driving console sight.
It is your choice anyway.

Re: Aftermarket NAV/Rear View question
Oh I see!
Do they change the screen as well (Mine is non touch) or is it the new Audi touch screen?
How much do you save?
Do you get the direction display in the driver console display?

Re: Aftermarket NAV/Rear View question
During my research on an aftermarket integrated GPS / rearview camera system for the Q5, I came across different iterations. There was the one like what spijun linked, as well as one which adds an touch-screen overlay to the existing MMI G2 display unit and a control module to allow for NAV and rearview camera.
I had an aftermarket (FlyAudio) system done to my IS250, and it's not bad. It took a lot of effort to get it in though.
I ended up buying a Q5 with the NAV and backup camera, because I think Audi did a very good job with the integration as well you get a 7" screen over 6.5". The only disadvantage is that it does cost a bit to update the maps than an aftermarket unit with iGo8 or Garmin.

Re: Aftermarket NAV/Rear View question
I hope that you find a great system. I do miss the "touchscreen". Working with the "****" gets long. But I haven't read the NAV manual and I'm sure that there has to be an easier way....
