OK, I'll bite on the debate.

If you overlay the torque/HP curves for the 2.0 and 3.2 you will notice that the 2.0T has more torque and HP up to about 4500 rpm. If you drive mainly between 1000-4000 rpm then you will likely benefit.

If you tow, you likely wont be over 4500 rpm at 100km/h with the 8 sp. so you should benefit (in theory).

Less expensive
Better mileage
Better for the environment (if you are into that)
8 speed tranny

But the best advantage is the lower weight. Initially, I test drove the 3.2 on two occasions and had a smile on my face for days. I test drove the 2.0T once and the smile is now permanent. The superior handling and driving feel of the 2.0T over the 3.2 is more than slightly noticeable and sealed the deal for me.

In 6 months we wont be having this debate since Audi is using up the last of the 3.2 parts and will likley discontinue the engine for 2012.

The "6 cylinder is better than 4 cylinder" arguement is pretty old school thinking in 2011.

I will say the 3.2 sounds better, but if i was going on sound alone i would have bought an Infiniti.

Just my thoughts and IMO, of course.

Chipped 2.0T, no water pump issues either.

I'd like to second hollywud22's opinion. When shopping for the car I came across torque/power graphs for 3.2 and 2.0T and after comparing them it became obvious that in the most drivable range (1500 - 4500 rpm) 2.0T has ~20% more power and torque. I realize that in 1% of situations one encounters on the road there's a need to push the engine beyond 4500 rpm and it would be nice to have a bit more power there, but... it's a good compromise.

I'm attaching two graphs I've found on audiworld.com for your review.

Get the 2.0T, if you are worried about acceleration and top speed get an S4 or S5 for this purpose.

We have not autobahn in NA, if you are doing more than 120 KM/hr for long periods of time then slow down before you kill me and/or you.

Being concerned with top speed on the Q5 Q7 forum is funny

Come on!

For what you'll save on the 2.0 over the 3.2, you can put on the B&O sound system and you wont be worried about engine noise anymore.

I disagree with whoever says 3.2 has engine noise. I've been driving it for 14 months in fact I find it way too quiet. If anything turbo engines are known to be noisier.

I think he was implying the 2.0T was noiser than the 3.2.

I've heard both engines at idle (outside the car ) and driving at speed (obviously inside the car) and cant notice any offensive noises or real difference. If you rev your 3.2 in your driveway, though, it sounds pretty cool!

Yes true - I mis-read it.

Hi Voric,

the chip should not void engine warranty. As a matter of fact, I believe at Pfaff Audi Vaughan they will actually install the chip for you on site. Cost will be in the $700 range if I am not mistaken. It wouldn't make much sense for the dealer to install something to your vehicle's detriment. You should discuss with their service dept.

2.0T or 3.2 to me would depend on the type of driving you are doing and how much of it. The 2.0T tranny is super smooth, I much prefer it.

Enjoy your Q5, I am sure you will be very happy with it.

Cheers
