2013 Q5 Electric Steering Issues
Anyone else hate the steering in the 2013 Q5's?
It feels disconnected and sounds like it rubs half of the time.
My perfect vehicle is the 2013 Q5 with my 2010's steering feel.
I hope the can come up with a fix going forward.

How do you mean rubs? Is it physically rubbing or just sounds like it is rubbing?
Best steering I ever had was in my 81' BMW 320i, not power assisted... so precise and direct, although hard to turn when parking.
Never have been a fan of hydraulic steering, I actually prefer electric to it. I think the first vehicle I had with electric was my Honda Fit, was nothing short of fantastic for feel. I’ve only test driven the Q5 at this point, but I felt impressed by it. Compared to the Mercedes electric steering it was way more direct, also I found the BMW electric steering was constantly giving back inconsistent feedback and feel.

Only 2200 km on our 2013 Q5 with drive select and this is my first vehicle with electric assist. Considering what I have heard about some of these systems, (the electric system in a Hyundai I tried was crap compared to the hydraulic system in my 04 Jetta) I have been pleasantly surprised with this one so far. Sounds like something is not quite right with yours.
Hi, Travis. Congrats on your new ride! I previously had an S-Line 2010 Q5, it did the same steering noise at low speed. Took it to the dealership and they fixed it for FREE. Can't remember what the cause was, but it was gone once I got it back from the dealership.
"Performed update of steering electronics as per 48K8 campaign."
It's difficult to tell any difference, as I never thought my Q5 felt "notchy" while straight on the freeway -- if anything has changed, the steering doesn't seem as stiff ...Cheerios from the Avalon
I still haven't had the chance to take it to the dealer for the issue. I'm four hours away, but it will be in soon.
Thanks for the information guys.
