Default 2013 Audi Q5 and TPMS

I am going to order some winter tires and rims and they are recommending that I add a tire pressure monitoring kit to the setup? I am finding conflicting information on wether or not I need to buy them as it says it is part of the braking system?

I have a 2013 2.0 with 19-inch wheels.

On my 2014 Q5, TPMS was optional (thank god)... and after dealing with the hassle of TPMS on my other cars for winter tires it was a welcomed relief.

So if it is an optional system, my guess is it isn't tied into any of the cars systems and it shouldn't be an issue.

The best place to look of course is your owners manual, they probably have a blurb on it in there that should be helpful

Does your car have it now?

If it's part of the ABS like my 2010 then your good to go without anything more than your tires and rims. Curious "who" was recommending adding this?

If your Q5 has TMPS then it's part of the ABS which means for winter tires you will NOT need one. If your card doesn't have TMPS then I don't' see any reason why you'd need it for your winters.

The owners manual isn't really clear either. I was looking at wheel and tire packages at both Tire Rack and 1010Tires and both showed TPMS as suggested add-ons. I thought I read somewhere (can't find where now) that the newer Audi's used a different way (ABS Brake System?) to monitor tire pressures.

I started to do some research online and only found conflicting information. It appears that I don't need to order it.

Thanks for your help with this. I am sure this question will come up more as we head into winter.!
