Default 2011 Q5 recall, anyone heard about it?

Apparently, a voluntary recall is in effect for the 2011 Q5 and it deals with a computer update that improves transmission shifting. Anyone have heard about that?

I hadn't heard. is it for the 8spd ZF transmission on the 2.0t, or the 6sp tranny on the 3.2 v6?

I asked service and there are no recalls.

I was experiencing transmission issues on my 2011 Q5 3.2 where i would feel the downshift when coming to a slow stop and a little lurch when taking my foot off the brake at a near stop (1-2km/h) as the car engaged into 1st gear from second- it just didn't feel normal and was very annoying in city driving. I took the car in after waiting 2 weeks for an appointment (at this point it had approx 1000km on it). They performed a TCM update and also determined that one of clutches had not 'adapted' so that had to be done manually. After a manual adaptation, the car was running worse and they couldn't reverse the patch so the next step from tech-line was to change the Mechatronic unit which is supposedly responsible for the adaptation of the clutches.

This is very disconcerting on a brand new vehicle, furthermore i am told the part will take 1 week to arrive from germany meaning my 1 month old car will be in service for 2 weeks (if i'm lucky).

I would appreciate it if anyone has had a similar experience or can shed some light on the situation as to what my rights are. The head mechanic could not even guarantee that the new Mechatronic would solve all the transmission issues. I will not accept a new transmission to be put into a brand new car.

Any thoughts, ideas will be greatly appreciated. I bought this vehicle (not a lease) and intend on keeping it a while but this experience is not confidence inspiring.

much appreciated

Unfortunately in Canada there's no Lemon Law like there is in the US. I'm afraid that unless you have a very understanding dealer(which is unlikely) you'll just have to keep dealing with them until they fix the problem.

Your only other option may be to call Audi Canada and see what they can do for you, if anything.

Good luck!

tomashek,
checked at my service department, it depends on your vehicle. Take your VIN and call your dealer's service department with it, they will run it and let you know.

Cheers,
P

Just a thought, are you experiencing any issues with your shifting right now?

I feel like mine is working perfectly. i would suggest that if yours is working well, you don't change anything and enjoy that beast!

Good luck.

Yup, I plan to ask when will be picking up touch up paint and rear rings emblem, which is soon. I don't feel anything abnormal with my trany, but will check for sure.
