(this might be news for some)StaSis is now partnering with Audi to continue to guarantee their warranty even after the ECU of an Audi has been flashed with aftermarket software. Some of the nearby Canadian Audi dealers (and in US as well) are just becoming StaSis certified. So you can flash your ECU with StaSis and your warranty still intact. However, the price won't be as cheap as APR. You would probably be looking around $1300 to $1500 including installation at your nearby dealer (dont quote me on it though).
In respect to your precious question about what Q5 I am getting. For sure a 2011. However, It still pretty debatable since 3.2 V6 seems to be the best choice in terms of performance from stock but the 2.0T with he opportunity to tweak this with an ECU flash you can potentially gain the following HP and torque with StaSis (has not been 100% proven yet)

2011 Q5 2.0T - HP: 261 - Torque: 305 - 0-60mph: 5.8 sec

So if the price of the “2.0T Premium Plus” is roughly $4000 CAD less than the “3.2 V6 Premium” (dealers expectations). The extra ~$1500 that I could put in to the StaSis flash for the 2.0T to modify the performance might be worthwhile….But… there is always a “BUT”. The 2.0T Premium Plus does not come with a Panoramic glass sunroof so that is another extra $2300 that I would have to put towards the total price. Therefore, I will be fairly close to the 3.2 V6 price.

I know the torque is huge in comparison to the 3.2 V6 stock but again nothing is written in stone yet.

 

ROKKSOL, thanks for the guide. Exactly what I was thinking wrt pano sunroof. I own a 3.2 right now and am looking into trading in for a 2.0T but a fully loaded 2.0T looks about the same price as a 3.2. The second disappointment for me is the change to 8-soeed tip instead of the S-tronic. I don't want to conclude that the 8-speed is inferior to the S-Tronic until I get a chance to drive it but I've had DSG in the past and absolutely loved it. Chip+DSG+Paddles = fun Whereas in my Q5, I think I've used the paddles a couple of times in 9 months of ownership.

 

What's the difference between the tiptronic currently on the Q5 vs. the DSG?

Looks to me like the 2.0 and the 3.2 are both tip?

 

Tiptronic is automatic that lets your select a gear with a conventional torque converter. DSG is a true manual transmission which is controlled by hydraulics instead of a clutch petal.

 

Not a whole lot of info is available on the 8-speed tiptronic (first launched on the A but it appears that it is not a conventional torque converter. It employs a lockup torque converter similar to the MB 7G-Tronic. Now, I also searched and found at least one Audi PDF referring to the existing 6-speed Tiptronic as employing a 'lockup torque converter'. In that case, it would just be a couple of extra gears.

 

I had a 2009 A4 loaner from Audi about a month back (standard model non premium) and it was 8 speed tip-tronic, as indicated above it's just a couple of extra gears.

 

8 speed transmission hasn't been released yet. You couldn't have driven one.

 

I put the A4 in tip-tronic mode and I started changing gears up and it went up to M8. I have also heard this be referred to as multi-tronic instead of tip tronic. Not a 100% sure of the difference.

 

It is a CVT transmission (no gears) and it is a simulated tiptronic. The 2011 transmission will actually have 8 gears.

 

Okay that makes sense, it felt like tip-tronic. I was pretty surprised too.
I guess the Q5 8 speed will be the first productionized 8 speed out there, I know BMW and Lexus are soon coming out with one and Mercedes already has 7 speed. I guess this will make the shifting a bit more smooth and slightly better fuel economy.
