Need advice on steering wheel + airbag combination
A steering wheel conundrum...
With my second Audi A4 I wanted to customize things a bit, and one of the things I wanted was a flat-bottomed steering wheel with shifting paddles (since I bought an automatic). I found one on Ebay, then also found an airbag for the wheel. I took this to my mechanic and he is also a little mystified.
The airbag has two metal clips with nuts inside for mounting bolts, but the steering wheel has no holes for these screws. According to the measurements I took the holes would have to be in the two little tabs at the right and left of the visible part of the aluminum backplate.
Lots of detailed pics within. Do I have the right airbag for the steering wheel? And how can this be mounted? My mechanic hasn't worked on this particular combination of things before.
The only guess I have is that I would have to remove the nuts from within the airbag's mounting tabs and that instead of being fixed with screws the airbag actually snaps in. Then the airbag's mounting tabs are actually clips that hold on to the two little tabs at the right and left of the steering wheel backplate.
But of course I want to be sure that this is correct before I even open the plastic bag.
