The castrol 0w30 you are referring to is "German Castrol", and is fully synthetic, not group
III hydrocracked oil like regular castrol syntec. I don't know of anywhere to find German castrol in my region, but I hear some people are even able to get it at their local Canadian tire. If it is the true "made in Germany" stuff, I think I would take that over the 5w40, but otherwise, stick with the tried tested and true, I guess....
I intend to switch to amsoil 5w40 at my next oil change.

yep, I've seen them in both Canadian Tire and Partsource. Is it okay to mix 0w30 and 5w40? because I still have some 5w40 from my last oil change

it is usually not a good idea to mix different grades of oil.... i am sure you won't grenade your engine though (especially if both oils are proper synthetic oils)

alright Thanks Jordan! I guess I'll buy another 4 litres of 5w-30 for my next oil change, then go back over to 0w-30.

I work at a lube shop where I do between 30 to 50 oil changes a day.... trust me when I say this, buy the best you can afford. I have a decent audi/bmw clientele now who I recommend bring their own oil. you should see the sludge that comes out of peoples oil pans, especially 1.8t. when they use either cheap synth or conventional. best I've seen with experience is either AMSOil, LubroMoly. glass smooth after 10k, as long as you didn't cheap out on a garbage Fram filter.

always remember the time of year (COLD or HOT), the way your car is driven and how long you drive on an oil change.
THE FILTER IS AS IMPORTANT!!!! only buy a MANN filter, forget bosch, mobil 1 or whatever.

Motul - Total - LubroMoly are the only ones I use , as they are available. LubroMoly is d smoothest running in my humble opinion, so is their gearbox and diff oil... 98 a4tq - 402215kms and going strong ... Till rebuild dat is
